Dr James Schuurmans-Stekhoven has a career defined by high-level academic rigour, a polymathic approach to research and a commitment to strategic optimisation across multiple disciplines.
With a PhD in Psychology and a background in academia and public sector economics, James has recently transitioned from clinical practice to multidisciplinary research, producing a body of work spanning psychology, statistical reasoning, history, linguistics, philosophy and religious studies. Current academic pursuits focus on the development of Proxy Sovereignty Theory (PST) – a sociological framework for analysing charismatic authority – and the critical evaluation of institutional narratives through a Bayesian analytical lens.
Predictive Modeling: Developing complex statistical models (SEM, ARIMAX) for sports analytics, specifically within the NRL and T20 cricket.
Philosophy and Theodicy: Exploring advanced concepts in theodicy, including the “Obscurant Trickster God” hypothesis.
Education: Investigating the pedagogy of critical information evaluation, with a focus on preparing future curricula for the 21st Century.
The creative process is centered on original composition, particularly in guitar, prioritising the generation of new musical ideas over the reproduction of existing works. As a self-described “optimiser”, the guiding principle is strategic efficiency — whether in creative pursuits, cognitive tasks, or complex data sampling. This approach is underpinned by a secure attachment style and a preference for personal autonomy.
