Nicolette Boele

  • Nicolette Boele (pronounced Bull-er) was born in Bradfield and has lived in the electorate for 41 of her 51 years, going to pre-school through to university and then raising her family in the area. She lives in North Turramurra with her 17-year-old daughter, 19-year-old son and husband Jonathan, a part-time screen director who’s worked on children’s television show Hi 5 and Home and Away.

Nicolette is a passionate advocate for a healthy and vibrant democracy, and that’s why she has decided to stand as an Independent in her local area. She has been endorsed as the Voices of Bradfield candidate.

Voices of Bradfield is a community organisation formed in Bradfield to identify the issues that matter to the people of Bradfield and find a representative who can speak to those issues in Canberra.  Based on these insights and knowledge, Nicolette is running on a platform of economic responsibility, climate action, integrity and respect for women in politics, increasing social cohesion and reducing inequality.

As a Responsible Investment Executive, she has worked with Responsible Investment Association Australasia (RIAA), the Investor Group on Climate Change and helped set up the Clean Energy Finance Corporation in 2012.

Nicolette firmly believes that “You can make money and do good at the same time”. She has built her career on building purpose into finance, by growing just social, and equitable environmental capital to underpin resilient and sustainable economies.

Nicolette has been published on a range of issues particularly around clean energy and climate change action. Most recently she contributed to Transitioning to a prosperous, resilient and carbon-free economy: A guide for decision-makers, published by Cambridge University Press. She has also appeared on ABC TV’s The Business and had her work covered by The Sydney Morning Herald and the Australian Financial Review.

She went to Gordon pre-school, Gordon East Primary, Killara High School and UTS Kuring-gai Campus where she received the Business Faculty’s top student award and scholarship. She received a full academic scholarship to attend the World Travel and Tourism Environment Research Centre at Oxford Brookes University in the UK.

Nicolette is truly independent and has never been a member of any political party, nor run for political office before.

Ms Boele brings policy acumen, advocacy skills and real-world business experience from a career working in capital markets, clean energy and climate change policy. For the past decade, she served as an executive at the Responsible Investment Association Australasia, the Investor Group on Climate Change and the Clean Energy Finance Corporation. She has political advocacy experience from her roles for state government, not-for-profit organisations and think tanks. She has provided consultancy advice to a number of Australia’s largest listed companies.

Ms Boele led the Responsible Investment Association Australasia policy and standards-setting agendas for Australia and New Zealand and was a member of the Principles of Responsible Investment’s Global Policy Reference Group. In her role, she also supported RIAA’s programs including Responsible Investment Certification, research and its human rights working group.

Nicolette joined RIAA after 25 years delivering engagements, collaborations and accountability solutions for and with Australian and international companies, governments, unions and NGOs. She has worked at the Australian Conservation Foundation and Investor Group on Climate Change and has held executive roles at The Climate Institute, the Clean Energy Finance Corporation, Banarra and the Sustainable Energy Development Authority.

Nicolette is involved in the burgeoning Sustainable Digitalization Project and is a member of its Sydney-based Roundtable. She is also a member of the Climate Impact Advisory Committee for New Zealand’s Climate Venture Capital Fund, and is an Advisory Board Member of The Good Car Company, a company working with communities to provide affordable electric vehicles.
