Tina Yong — Moving and shaping Australian dance culture

By | | comments |

This photograph of dancer Tina Yong performing with Bharatam Dance Company is a triumph of light and shade. (Photo, 1988.)

Yong was a founding member of renowned dancer and choreographer Dr Chandrabhanu OAM's Melbourne-based company, which pioneered the bringing of Indian classical dance to mainstream professional stages in Australia.

According to IndianLink'... Bharatam paved the way for cross-cultural understanding during multicultural Australia’s infancy, achieving a level of commercial and critical success amongst a non-South Asian audience hitherto unheard of for a traditional form.'
