Major General Michael Keating

Independent Australia's David Donovan and ARM chair Mike Keating had a piece published on the the ABC's Drum Unleashed website yesterday. It lays to lay to rest the surprisingly resilient myth that when and if Australia becomes a Republic, it would have to quit the Commonwealth and wouldn't be able to compete in the Commonwealth Games.

Here's their intro:

It reminds us that during the lead up to the 1999 referendum on the Australian Republic, monarchists established a particular myth firmly in many Australians minds. It’s the one that pretends that as a republic we won’t be able to continue to participate in the Commonwealth Games.
