Margaret Read

  • Margaret Read grew up in Epping in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. In the 70’s she worked as a clerical assistant for a real estate company, then in the 80’s till 2002 worked a technical assistant with Telecom now known as Telstra and for various other companies.

     

    She played netball at a high standard and took a lot of pride in her sport. She met Mark Read in her early twenties; they were both from the northern suburbs and became very close friends over time.

     

    In 2010 Margaret wrote 2 chapters for the book  ‘Mark Chopper Read, One Thing Led To Another’.

     

    In 2016 Margaret successfully completed a Diploma of Community Service at NMIT and worked with marginalized individuals throughout the course.

    She chose to take up this course of study as a way to help individuals who are socially marginalized or excluded as she not only has the theory behind her but has the practical knowledge of understanding how to engage and provide support to communities and to those who are outcast.

     

    Margaret currently volunteers at WAM, an organization for women who have a lived experience with family violence, as a mentor for these women it helps Margaret to understand and develop relationships with her mentees as a way to work through their problems with them.

     

    She is also writing her first book, which will reveal once and for all the truth behind her late husband Mark Brandon Read and their life together.
