Johanna S Browne is a board director of Recovering from Religion Australia, where she is responsible for governance, advocacy and fundraising. She joined RfR Australia’s GAF Committee as a volunteer in 2025 and was elected to the board in January 2026. She represents RfR Australia on the Secular Australia Forum and is part of the Census: Not Religious? campaign.
Johanna's advocacy work has included contributing, on behalf of RfR Australia, to the Secular Australia Forum’s joint stakeholder submission for Australia’s 51st Universal Periodic Review. She has also served on Humanists Australia’s selection panel for the Australian Humanist of the Year and Young Australian Humanist of the Year awards.
Johanna served as vice president of Faithless Hijabi from 2021 to 2025. She has also supported Secular Rescue cases through asylum and relocation processes, providing practical, logistical and emotional assistance to people at risk because of their non-religious views.
Johanna holds a BSc in anthropology and an MSc in developmental biology from the University of Toronto. She writes about freedom of conscience, religious harm, secularism and human rights.
