Dr Peter Evans is a 5th generation Australian of both convict and Irish catholic descent. He was educated at St Joseph's College, Hunters Hill in Sydney and graduated in Medicine from Sydney Uni in 1957.
He became a Medical Officer at RPA Hospital, Sydney. After this, he trained in Philosophy and Theology and was ordained a Roman Catholic priest in 1967. In 1973, he was admitted to the Australian College of Psychiatrists.
Dr Evans left the priesthood in 1976, before getting married and having four sons. He practised psychiatry in Sydney, London and Melbourne for 40 years.
Dr Peter Evans has recently retired and is dedicated to the republican movement.
