Dr Denise Meyer is a chartered psychologist and has worked in student support in UK universities since 1995. She is currently Head of Wellbeing at the University of Portsmouth, an institution with a strong reputation for promoting widening participation in higher education. There, she has recently led the Office for Students funded Speak UP Step UP project promoting inclusive student leadership, with a particular emphasis on supporting student transitions. Her most recent published writing is ‘The Student Lifecycle: Pressure points and transitions’, a chapter in Barden & Caleb (2019) ‘Student Mental Health & Wellbeing in Higher Education: A practical guide’, London: Sage.
