Savannah Bergquist

  • DR SAVANNAH BERGQUIST is a Conjoint Fellow at Newcastle Business School, Faculty of Business and Law at The University of Newcastle, Australia

    Her research focuses on developing methods to produce evidence for policymaking in settings where data are systematically missing. As a postdoctoral scholar at the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley, she works on interdisciplinary projects spanning health economics, sociology, and data science.

    In her PhD dissertation, Savannah examined how data can be leveraged to achieve efficiency and fairness goals in individual health insurance markets. She studied using health insurance claims data to identify cancer stages. Her name is pronounced ‘suh-VA-nuh’ (rhymes with the American pronunciation of ‘banana’) ‘BUR-kwist’.

    Savannah graduated from the Health Policy doctoral program (Evaluative Science & Statistics concentration) at Harvard University in May 2019. She also holds a Master of Science in Health, Population, and Society from the London School of Economics, and an AB in Political Economy from Georgetown University. Her doctoral training was supported by an NIMH training fellowship, a Harvard University Merit Fellowship and the Harvard Data Science Initiative Competitive Research Fund.
